Starry Night Necklace

This bat pendant showcases the distinctive crazing effect characteristic of Raku firing. As the piece is pulled from the red-hot kiln—reaching temperatures just over 1,800°F—the glaze audibly cracks before being carefully placed into a reduction chamber. The oxygen-deprived environment enhances the metallic and iridescent tones while turning the bare clay on the back a deep black. Each firing yields a one-of-a-kind pattern, making every piece a little surprise of artistry and alchemy. This piece has a vibrant turquoise hue with variations in tone, ranging from deep teal to lighter sky blue.
